BIO 2007
Gordie Johnson recently stated in an interview with Guitarist UK,
“We’re trying to find the common ground between punk, metal and
gospel. I like to think we sound like Motorhead just got the job of
backing up John Lee Hooker.”
As reviewed in L.A. magazine Access: “GRADY has enough low end
buzz and slide guitar to shake down the walls of the Alamo.”
Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys lead singer/ Alternative Tentacles
owner) has enthused “You guys are the missing link between Junior
Brown and Black Flag.”
This trio of tall Texans will captivate you with a sound somewhere
between early ZZ Top and an alien abduction. Equal parts Southern
Gospel and Satanic Ritual. Gordie “Grady” Johnson on lead vocals
and guitar, “Big Ben” Richardson on bass, and Billy “Thunderball”
Maddox beating the drums loud and proud, kneel at the altar of the
one-chord stomp and make every show a unique offering.
As reviewed in Observer Music Monthly UK: “One of the bands that
perhaps best define the city (Austin) today is GRADY …. Cowboy
Metal anyone?”
The new cd “A Cup of Cold Poison” was recorded live off the floor
at Willie Nelson’s famed Pedernales recording studio and even
features a spoken word introduction by the Red Headed Stranger
himself.
Watch for GRADY, who will be blowing the doors off of venues with
their 2007 tour.
